Post-Massage Self-Care
There are many benefits to continuing physical care after you have received a massage.
Why?
Since massage therapy manipulates muscle and other connective tissues such as fascia and joints, there is an increase in circulation within areas that were worked on.
Massage therapy’s’ effects can last from 3-4 days or longer. Longer lasting benefits of massage; promote relaxation, reduce stiffness and pain, and promote nutrient uptake from improved circulation within the body.
When we preform some simple practices post-massage, we gain an extension to these benefits.
How?
There are a variety of ways you can easily help your body continue the healing process:
Hydrotherapy: a warm bath or shower, cold compress and rest.
Water Intake: drink lots of water.
Some self-care and remedial exercise: such as stretch and strengthening exercises.
A light walk for 30 minutes. A walk helps continue to promote circulation within the body, assisting in reducing stiffness in the fascial and muscles.
