REIKI
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a subtle relaxation healing technique. It involves light (or no) touch. It is time and space to encourage the body to heal itself. The Reiki practitioner guides energy towards areas in the body that needs healing.
Is Reiki Right for Me?
Reiki can be for everyone. It is gentle and noninvasive. It may assist in managing stress, pain, anxiety and depression.
It may be helpful if you have not seen results from other treatments or solutions; even if only to assist the nervous system in calming down. When the nervous system is stressed, the body is in a state of flight or flight and does not focus on restoring and healing itself.
Although Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, it can work in adjacent to medical interventions.
Comfort
Comfort can assist in experiencing a deeper session. It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be laying face-up on the table, covered by a blanket to keep warm.
Breathing
You’re encouraged to focus on your natural breathing. Thoughts may wander in your mind, you may acknowledge them and then like the clouds in the sky, let them drift away and return your attention back to your breathing throughout your treatment.
Sensations
The session is usually silent with light music in the background. Eyes closed, to enhance the relaxation experience. A folded towel can be placed over your eyes, if wished.
You may feel sensations during your treatment, or you may feel nothing at all. Sensations vary from person to person, some can feel ‘air flow’ through the body, some may feel light vibrations, heat or cold in the practitioners hands or within the body. There can be images of colour, objects, maybe even sounds and smells.
As with the thoughts, you can acknowledge these as they come, observe them for a time, and when ready release them.
What to Expect During Reiki
Once the Session is Completed
To come out of the session gently, begin with small movements of the body, gentle opening of the eyes and increase movements of the body.
Eventually, laying on your side and sitting up. Taking the time slowly to return to the room. Once dressed, open the door slightly.
It is encouraged to drink water and rest or a light walk.
